A marriage profile is personal. It carries your photographs, your religious practice, your family situation and your health. This policy sets out exactly what we collect, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it. If anything here is unclear, please contact us.
1Who Is Responsible for Your Data
Kaiveni Hiya Pvt Ltd, a company registered in the Republic of Maldives, decides how and why your personal information is used, and is responsible for looking after it.
- You can reach us about anything in this policy at salaam@kaivenihiya.com, or through the contact form on our website or in the app.
- This policy covers the Kaiveni Hiya app, the website at kaivenihiya.com, and our support and administration systems.
2What We Collect
We collect what is needed to run a safe, honest marriage-intent platform — no more. Most of it you give us yourself, when you sign up, complete your profile, or contact us.
- Account details: your name, email address, phone number where you give one, date of birth, gender, and your sign-in method.
- Profile details: location, marital status, whether you have or want children, education, profession, income band, nationality and ethnicity, and what you are looking for.
- Faith and practice: your religion, level of religious practice, prayer habits, and dress. You choose whether to answer these.
- Health: your thalassaemia status, if you choose to give it. Thalassaemia carries particular weight in the Maldives, which is why we ask.
- Photographs, and — if you apply for verification — a government identity document and a photograph of you holding it.
- Activity: who you show interest in or pass on, your matches, your messages, your reports and blocks, and your wali links.
- Payment: the bank transfer receipt you upload, and the reference and amount on it. We never see or store your card or full bank details.
- Technical: device model, operating system, app version, IP address, notification token, and security and error logs.
3Sensitive Information
Some of what we collect is sensitive by any standard: your religion and religious practice, your health, your identity documents, and photographs of your face. We treat this differently from ordinary profile data.
- We collect it because the service cannot work without it. A marriage platform that does not know whether you pray, or whether you are a thalassaemia carrier, cannot match you honestly.
- You give it to us knowingly and by choice. Every one of these fields can be left blank, and you can remove an answer later.
- Identity documents are used only to check that you are who you say you are. They are not shown to other members, not used for matching, and are deleted once your verification is decided.
- We do not sell any of your information, and we do not use it for advertising or share it with advertisers.
4How We Use Your Information
Everything we do with your data falls into one of these purposes. If we ever want to use it for something new, we will tell you first.
- To create your account and show your profile to the members you have chosen to be visible to.
- To suggest members who fit your stated preferences, and to keep out those you have blocked or passed on.
- To enable matches, messaging, wali review, and notifications about activity on your account.
- To check identity documents and payment receipts, and to run verification and membership.
- To investigate reports, detect fraud and fake accounts, enforce our terms, and keep members safe.
- To answer your support messages and send you service updates about your account.
- To understand which features are used and to fix faults, using aggregated information wherever we can.
- To meet legal obligations and to respond to lawful requests from Maldivian authorities.
5Who Can See Your Information
This is the part members ask about most. Your profile is not public on the internet — it is shown inside the app to other members, and to a wali if you have invited one.
- Other members see your profile details, photographs and bio. They do not see your email, phone number, exact address, identity documents or payment information.
- You can keep your photographs private until both of you have shown interest. Until then they stay blurred or hidden.
- A wali you have invited can see the matches you are asked to have approved, and the profile information of the member concerned, so that they can make a decision.
- Messages are visible to you and the member you are speaking with. Our moderation team can read a conversation only when it has been reported.
- A small number of trained staff can see verification documents and payment receipts in order to review them. Access is limited to those who need it and is logged.
- Search engines do not index member profiles.
6Why We Are Allowed to Use It
We rely on one of the following grounds for each use of your information.
- To perform our agreement with you — running your account, matching, messaging and membership.
- Your consent — for sensitive details such as faith, health and photographs, and for push notifications and marketing. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Our legitimate interests — keeping the platform safe, preventing fraud and abuse, and improving the service, weighed against your rights.
- Legal obligation — where the law or a valid order requires us to keep or disclose information.
7Who We Share It With
We do not sell your data. We share it only with the providers who help us run the service, and only what each of them needs.
- Our hosting and database provider, which stores your account, profile, photographs and messages under contract with us.
- Our push notification provider, which receives a device token and the notification text in order to deliver it.
- Our email provider, for account and support emails.
- Our bank, in connection with membership transfers you make to us.
- Professional advisers, and authorities or courts in the Maldives where we are lawfully required to disclose information.
- A buyer or successor, if the business is ever sold or reorganised. We would tell you before your data moved.
- Every provider is bound to use your data only on our instructions and to protect it.
8How Long We Keep It
We keep your information for as long as your account is open, and after that only for as long as we have a reason to.
- Your profile and photographs are removed from the app as soon as you delete your account.
- Account records are held for a short recovery window after deletion in case it was a mistake, then permanently erased or anonymised.
- Identity documents are deleted once your verification has been decided. We keep only the outcome.
- Payment receipts and membership records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Records of serious safety reports, blocks and removals are kept longer, so that a removed member cannot simply return.
- Messages remain visible to the other member in their own conversation history, as they are that person's record too.
9How We Protect It
No system is perfectly secure, but we take your information seriously and design for the assumption that it matters.
- Traffic between your device and our servers is encrypted, and data is encrypted where it is stored.
- Database rules restrict every record to the people entitled to see it, rather than relying on the app to hide things.
- Staff access to member data is limited to what a person needs for their role, and administrative actions are logged.
- Photographs and documents are served through short-lived private links rather than public addresses.
- Please help us: use a strong, unique password, do not share your sign-in details, and tell us at once if you think your account has been accessed.
10Where Your Information Is Stored
Our providers operate data centres outside the Maldives, so your information may be stored or processed abroad.
- Wherever it is held, your data stays subject to this policy and to our contracts with each provider.
- We choose providers that offer recognised security standards and appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
11Your Rights
Your information is yours. You can exercise any of these rights in the app, or by writing to us — we will respond within 30 days, and we will not charge you or treat you differently for asking.
- Access — ask what we hold about you and receive a copy.
- Correction — fix anything inaccurate. Most of it you can edit yourself in the app.
- Deletion — close your account and have your data erased, subject to the retention rules above.
- Withdraw consent — remove a sensitive answer, hide your photographs, or turn off notifications, at any time.
- Object or restrict — ask us to stop or limit a particular use of your information.
- Portability — receive your data in a form you can take elsewhere.
- Complain — if you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the relevant Maldivian authority.
12Adults Only
Kaiveni Hiya is for adults seeking marriage and is not intended for anyone under 18.
- We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
- If we learn that an account belongs to a minor we close it and delete the data.
- If you believe a minor has an account, please report it to us straight away.
13Changes to This Policy
We will update this policy as the service changes. The date at the top always shows when it was last revised.
- For significant changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect.
- Where a change requires your consent, we will ask for it rather than assume it.
