Safety and behaviour standards for all members

Community Guidelines

Last updated 6 September 2026 · Written in plain language so it can be understood. It is not legal advice.

Kaiveni Hiya works because members come here with a clear intention and treat each other accordingly. These guidelines sit alongside our terms of use and describe what we expect, and what we do when it is not met.

1Marriage Intent Only

This is not a dating app. Everyone here has said they are looking for marriage, and members are entitled to take that at face value.

  • Join only if you are genuinely seeking marriage and are free to marry.
  • Be honest about your timeline and your intentions from the first conversation.
  • Do not use the platform for casual relationships, flirting, or making friends.
  • If your circumstances change and you are no longer seeking marriage, pause or close your account.

2Respectful Communication

Speak to every member the way you would want your own sister, brother or child spoken to.

  • Use respectful language in all chats and interactions.
  • Do not pressure, intimidate, or repeatedly contact members who are not interested.
  • Accept a decline gracefully. Silence is also an answer.
  • Do not send sexual messages or request intimate photographs. Ever.
  • Block and report abusive behaviour so our team can act on it.

3Authentic Profiles

Every profile here is a proposal of marriage in miniature. A dishonest one wastes a family's time and can cause real harm.

  • Use current photographs that clearly and honestly show you.
  • Do not pretend to be someone else or misrepresent your identity, age or marital status.
  • Be truthful about children, health and thalassaemia status. Someone may make a life decision on it.
  • One person, one account.

4Families and Walis

Involving families is the point of this platform, not an obstacle to work around.

  • Invite a wali if you wish to, and respect a member who has chosen to involve theirs.
  • Do not pressure anyone to remove their wali, hide the conversation from their family, or keep things secret.
  • If you act as a wali, review honestly and promptly, and keep what you see private.
  • Speak about another member's family with the same respect you would want for your own.

5Staying Safe

We can moderate what happens on the platform. We cannot protect you off it, so please take care.

  • Never share financial details, one-time passwords, or private documents in chat.
  • Meet in public places and tell a trusted family member or friend your plans.
  • Take your time. Anyone rushing you to meet privately, move off the app, or commit quickly is a warning sign.
  • Use the in-app tools to flag profiles or conversations that feel wrong. You do not need proof to report.
  • If you are in immediate danger, contact the Maldives Police Service on 119.

6Never Send Money

Romance scams follow a pattern: warmth, then urgency, then a request. It can happen to anyone, and there is no shame in having been targeted.

  • Never send money, top-ups, gift cards or transfers to a member, whatever the reason given.
  • Never receive or forward money on someone's behalf. This can make you part of a crime.
  • Be suspicious of emergencies, medical bills, travel costs, customs fees, or investment offers.
  • Kaiveni Hiya staff will never ask you for money, your password, or an OTP.
  • Report anyone who asks. You may be stopping them from reaching someone else.

7Moving Off the Platform

Many members move to another messaging app once they trust each other. That is your choice, but understand what changes.

  • Once you leave Kaiveni Hiya we cannot see the conversation, moderate it, or help with what happens in it.
  • Blocking someone here does not block them elsewhere, and your wali no longer sees anything.
  • Report bad behaviour here before you move, so a record exists.
  • Do not feel pressured to share a phone number before you are ready.

8What Happens If Rules Are Broken

We review every report, and we commit to acting within 24 hours. What we do depends on how serious the matter is and whether it has happened before.

  • We review every report within 24 hours and remove offending content and the member responsible.
  • We may remove content, issue a warning, restrict features, suspend an account, or remove a member permanently.
  • Serious matters — threats, sexual harassment, anything involving a minor, fraud — mean immediate removal and, where appropriate, a report to the authorities.
  • A removed member's membership ends with their account and is not refunded.
  • Deliberately false reports are themselves a breach of these guidelines.
  • If you believe a decision was wrong, contact us and a different reviewer will look at it.
